Continent: Australia

Here’s a collection ideas and resources I’ve collected, as well as some videos and activities for doing a study of Australia. Please be forewarned that it is very difficult to find Australian resources that don’t include evolution or references to “millions of years”, so many of the books and resources listed on this page do contain a little of that type of content, however, I have done my best to minimize evolution-based content and to even find resources that help to provide a Creation-based viewpoint to help counteract the Evolution-based content, but just be aware that the resources listed on this page to not all completely agree with the Creation-based Christian faith.

In Australia’s Beginning

In Australia’s Beginning. Finally a book that teaches about Australia from a Creation stand point!! I looked so hard to find this resource.

Most books and videos that teach about Australia all teach from an Evolutionists perspective. I wrote a lengthy review on this book’s Amazon listing, so you can read my review there when you click on the link above. But, as it relates to our Australia study, I think this is the BEST book to start with!

So many of the other resources that teach about Australia include Evolution and talk about the Aboriginal people as having lived in Australia for 40,000+ years. Whenever we come across that kind of information in our study, we just pause a moment to talk about the fact that the people who believe this don’t believe that God made the world, because according to the Bible, God created the world only about 6,000 years ago, so it isn’t possible for anything to be 40,000+ years old. By starting out with this book, I feel like the kids have a better foundation for seeing how God fits into the story of Australia, and helps them to be better equipped to understand the misinformation that we come across as we dive into other resources that teach about Australia from an evolutionary view point.

Australia Scavenger Hunt

Australia Scavenger Hunt. My kids love scavenger hunts! And they are such a fun way to kick of our exploration of a new country, so I’ve started making these gun little scavenger hunts for the different countries we virtually visit.

The scavenger hunt is free. Simply download the .zip file and unzip it, then you will see the individual files. Each file is a simple .jpg image. I designed them to be 4x6, to make it really simple to print on 4x6 photo paper. But you can print them any size you want.

Once printed, I put some tape on the back of each of the individual pictures and hide them all over the room. Each of the kids gets a copy of the main scavenger hunt card so they know what they’re looking for, and they head off to find all the hidden pictures. It’s always a big hit!
